Walking up to High Wood
Walkers at Warnham Nature Reserve
Crossing Gravel Pit Field at Chesworth Farm

A celebration Walk to mark coming out of lockdown is planned to begin at 10.00 am on Saturday 11th September. We hope that you, your family and friends (and dogs) will be able to join us.

The Walk will start and finish at New House Farm, in Old Crawley Road, where the owner has been very helpful in allowing us to park cars. Please note that entrance to the carpark will not be possible before 9.30am. Conveniently, the farm is on the route of the 13-mile circular Walk around the town. We will be walking the route clockwise. More information will be shown soon.

Open to walkers and runners of all ages, there is no charge to join in. There were 320 participants in 2019, many accompanied by their dogs.

This year, the walk will be led by Jill Shuker, an experienced leader well-known to local walkers. Jill has been an organiser and supporter of the event since 2014.

Not everyone will walk the total length and to help, a free mini bus will wait at agreed points to transport walkers back to the car park.

Those taking part will have an opportunity to donate to the local branch of the charity, Parkinson’s UK, and details can be found below.

Please help publicise this event by social media, newsletters, websites, talking to family, friends and workmates.

The event is of course subject to any Covid restrictions that may apply at the time.

To help our planning for the event please send a message, giving the number of people in your party, to horshamriversidewalk@gmail.com or phone 07906 211030.

Of course the route of the Riverside Walk is open all year round and we are pleased that a great many residents have been using it for their allowed exercise during lockdown. Please continue to make use of it and enjoy the scenery, nature and fresh air. Maps and information can be seen on our website page:- www.horsham.community/riverside-walk/

We are sorry that we could not host a walk event in 2020 but are glad to hear that so many of you are looking forward to an event later this year.

The current situation makes it likely that we can get back to having our annual walks as usual in July 2022. Plans have already started for this and will confirm details as soon as we can.

The charity we are supporting this year is Parkinson's UK Horsham and we hope walkers will help raise funds by making a donation or by being sponsored, but this is not a condition of joining the Walk. Information about making donations and sponsorship can be found HERE.

Parkinson's is a progressive neurological condition that cause problems in the brain which get worse over time. People with Parkinson's don't have enough of the chemical dopamine as some of the nerve cells that make it have died.

There are lots of different treatments, therapies and support available to help manage the condition and researchers are working hard to develop new and better treatments - and one day a cure.

Horsham and District Branch offers friendship and support locally to people with Parkinson’s, their families and carers. You can ring for a chat with one of their volunteers Carol Matthews (01403 263882), Liz Roberts (01403 217263) or Paul Dodd (01403 266173). Also see their website at:
